#9 - Skyfall (2012)

What better James Bond movie could have released on Bond’s very own 50th anniversary than
Skyfall? Well, a couple but certainly not the most beautiful looking Bond movie of ‘em all,
that’s for sure.

Yes, Skyfall indeed is the most beautiful looking Bond film ever. Courtesy of the famed
cinematographer Roger Deakins, this is one of those films where I can easily say
“I wish I could have that shot framed up in my apartment wall”. Daniel Craig plays a haggard
and rusty out-of-touch Bond which was surprisingly emotional and powerful. The action scenes
were all stellar. From the opening motorcycle chase, to the fight in Shanghai, I was thrilled
throughout. Eminent Spanish actor Javier Bardem plays the lead villain, Raoul Silva, bringing
his own gravitas to the rogue gallery.

A slight departure from having young and attractive Bond girls in all the Bond films, Skyfall only
had a small role for Bérénice Marlohe (as Séverine). However the main Bond girl of this movie,
in my humble opinion, was M (played by Dame Judi Dench) head of MI6 and Bond's superior.
The relationship between Bond and M in all Daniel Craig era movies were more akin to surrogate
mother-son rather than boss-employee in previous films. And the filmmakers took full advantage
of it.

Add to that one of the Best theme song “Skyfall” by Adele and you have a knock-out Bond movie.
