#10 - Thunderball (1965)

The 4th James Bond movie ever made, with Sean Connery in the role of James Bond is as fun
and entertaining now as it was back then. At 130 minutes, it was one of the longest Bond
films of Connery era. Although, many complained about its slow pacing, I’ve always felt it was
deliberate.

Set in picturesque Nassau, Bahamas, the plot is exciting, all the classic Bond tropes were
present and humor didn’t felt too campy or cheesy like some of the Moore era films.
Thunderball also boasts of having two of the most beautiful Bond girls ever --
Domino Vitali (played by Claudine Auger) and femme fatale Fiona Volpe (played by Luciana Paluzzi).

However the main attraction of Thunderball lay in its elaborate underwater action scenes which
previously unseen or unheard of. The sequences still remains to this day, well choreographed
and clearly shot. It would also help that Adolfo Celi gave a very restrained performance as the main
villain Emilio Largo.

Last but not least, the film’s whole atmosphere just feels perfectly "Bond" to me with equal parts
a heist movie and a detective movie.
